ABC reveals details of its Masters of Science Fiction lineup

More infromation has emerged about the Masters of Science Fiction anthology series that is coming to ABC this fall.

It appears that it will be a mid-season replacement and only six episodes have been shot so far, each based on a different short story. The lineup of stories is below. I've linked to the anthologies and magazines where you can find these the originals in case you want to read the stories before you watch them:

The Discarded

Can't say I know to many of these, but I'm certainly glad that "The Discarded" is one of them.  I'm more familiar with the illistrated version that appeared in "The illustrated Ellison". A great story and it will certainly rely on modern SFX to ring true.

"Jerry was a man" rings a bell so I must have read it years ago, but I can't remember what the story was.

I must say that I'm a bit surprised at some of these "Masters" being selected. I know that when the "Masters of Horror" series came out, most of the selections had great credentials (except one guy who was more responsible for putting the series together in the first place rather than anything else). Is it me? I'm I so detached from 'todays' SF scene? Who are Fast and Mosely?

Fast and Mosley

You probably don't recognize Fast's name because he is more famous for writing non-genre fiction, most notably Spartacus, the story of the man who led a rebellion against the Romans. You can read about Fast at his Wikipedia entry.

Mosley is a more contemporary writer, but is mostly known for crime fiction, although he's some science fiction. Here's his Wikipedia entry.

I'm glad that the producers have chosen to adapt lesser-known stories. Heaven knows there are lots of them. One advantage of taking this route is that it prevents the fanboys from complaining that the adaptations sucked because chances are they've never read the originals.

Frakes to direct Ellison episode on Masters of Science Fiction

In case you missed it, former Star Trek star Jonathan Frakes will direct the Harlan Ellison story in the series. He did a pretty credible job directing many Trek episodes, so I expect he'll do a good job on this show.
