Warren Ellis offers free and not-so free new comics
The newest graphic novel from Warren Ellis sounds promising. It's called Anna Mercury and is a five-part science fiction series that is being described as "a high-octane blend of retropunk science fiction and 21st century Weird Pulp action, with a beautiful and mysterious spy-adventurer." Sounds like my kind of story. Each book is priced at $3.99 U.S, but I'd imagine that if you wait long enough the five issues will be bound in one volume for a slightly cheaper price.
If you're too cheap to even consider the series, but still want your Ellis fix then start reading FreakAngels, a new, free, weekly comic he's put online that is being illustrated by Paul Duffield.
A totally unrelated, but equally cool, comic that I stumbled across recently is Caveman Robot. It's pretty freaky.
The kids, however, are probably more interested in manga than any of this stuff. For them, I've got a link to a review of Gintama. It's a bizarre fusion of samurai and aliens. It's the sort of thing that Harry Turtledove would have written if he was Japanese.
