Pimp my post-apocalyptic ride

When the Apocalypse comes, will you have the right kind of car? Automotive blog Jalopnik lists the top 10 post-apocalypse survival vehicles. These aren't fictional cars from some Mad Max movie. They are the real McCoy. I guess they're great as long as you've got gasoline to fuel them. Once that runs out they become really great post-apocalypse survival homes.

Speaking of the Apocalypse, CBS's Jericho is back for a limited second season and those of you who haven't been keeping up can watch all of the first season episodes as well as season 2 episodes online thanks to the network's own website. Enjoy them while you can because the show probably won't be back for another season.

One blogger who enjoys the show lamented how the science fiction vision of America as seen in Jericho isn't far removed from today.

My final apocalyptic link for the day is this impressive panorama of the ruins of London after some terrible catastrophe. Actually, it doesn't look much different than a photo from the Blitz.

Jalopnick: Orbiter

Those survival mobiles were neat. I especially liked the "Orbiter". Followed the URL that described the whole story behind it. It nearly made it around the world. Crossed the atlantic and even was the first amphibian to cross the Panama canal. In the end, it was not the technical difficulties that ended it trip prematurely (not that there weren't problems), but the social pressures of having a couple couped up in a can.

post apocalypse cars

Awsome choices, but none of them will work if they are in range of a HEMP blast (High Altitude Electro-Magnetic Pulse) which happens when a nuclear warhead is detonated.

HEMP

EMP attacks microprocessors, so as long as the vehicles has no electronics it should work just fine. Granted this does not include any modern cars, but nothing is stopping you from building a car that uses no electronics, they use to work just fine without them before.
